Women in Science and Engineering at San Jose State University (WiSE@SJSU)

WiSE@SJSU is an active group of mostly female Science and Engineering students which aims to promote retention and recruitment of female students in Science and Engineering majors. WiSE@SJSU accomplishes this goal through collaboration in research, study groups and outreach; WiSE collaborates with the SJSU Society of Women Engineers and Physics Club.

Several WiSE members presented research papers at Am. Phys. Soc. and Am. Chem. Soc. National and regional meetings. Several seminars addressing WiSE issues have been organized. WiSE developed a prototype "modern physics" demonstration called the "Magnetic H2O Thomson Demo." A final demonstration version is in preparation. WiSE has also participated with some of the Am. Assoc. Univ. Women (San Jose) Tech Excellence field trips and workshops at John Muir Magnet school for a group of 20-25 female students.

WiSE@SJSU is financially supported by SJSU Graduate Studies, CoS Lottery Moneys, Society of Archimedes, some outside supporters, and a few WiSE Faculty and Alumni.
